— In celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Richard Showalter were honored with a surprise family party June 23 at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and Ray Johnson of Geneva.

The couple renewed their wedding vows via Skype. Their children planned an elaborate ceremony as the couple had eloped when they got married. Officiating was family friend, Bishop Dan Sturgill of Glen St. Mary, Fla.

Richard and Patricia (Berta) were married by the Rev. Finley Miller June 11, 1963, in Jefferson, N.C.

The couple’s children and spouses include Gregory and Christine of Corona, Calif.; Michael and Illatawie of Orlando, Fla.; Scott and Julie of Beloit; Eric and Karen of Conneaut; Gretchen and Ray Johnson; and Justin of Conneaut. They also have nine grandchildren.

Mr. Showalter was a realtor for 25 years prior to his retirement. Mrs. Showalter has been employed as an aide with the Conneaut Area City Schools for 28 years. They attend Ashtabula Pentecostal Church of God and are members of the Lake Erie Boat Club.
