NORTH KINGSVILLE — The Wooden Apple has moved and is blooming in its new location at 2776 E. Center St.
Owner and floral designer Pamela Palermo, who has owned the Wooden Apple since 2004, chose the name to honor her maternal grandparents who immigrated from Germany.
“Their name was Holzapfel, which in German translates “wooden apple,” Palermo said. “My grandfather was a hard-working small-business owner who settled in Meadville, Pa.”
The Wooden Apple floral and gift shop was originally located on the corner of Center Street and Route 193, when a new venue opened up a short distance to the east with more space and parking.
“The opportunity just presented itself,” Palermo said. “Allco Realty was the former tenant, which was coincidentally started by my mother, Victoria Schlosser. When Allco merged with Prudential Select, my brother Bruce Schlosser, who is the broker for the Ashtabula office, asked me to give this location some thought.”
Palermo is thrilled with her choice to move for many reasons.
“Besides the ample parking and the nice signage out front, just the fact that this is a house I have been able to decorate with what I sell is a wonderful advantage,” she said. “I want customers to be able to visualize how a floral design piece or interior accent will look in their home.”
Indeed, Palermo, with the help of her parents, family and friends, has created a warm comfortable shop that is a pleasure to be in, whether customers are choosing floral arrangements, consulting for a wedding or just visiting with Palermo.
“I really enjoy the lay-out of the rooms. I have an accessible workroom and consultation room, as well as the charming enclosed front porch,” she said.
What can one expect to find at the Wooden Apple?
Customers can choose from fresh flowers, custom designed silks, giftware, interior accents, lamps and more.
“I create floral (arrangements) for all occasions. Any occasion that calls for flowers, I can do it.”
Palermo’s favorite floral creations are wedding arrangements and bouquets.
“There is no better feeling in the world than when a bride sees her flowers for the first time. The look on her face is worth it all,” she said. “Plus, it is such fun to sit with the brides and discuss what she wants and how we can be creative to achieve the look she has envisioned. Watching that process come to fruition is very satisfying.”
So, what is hot for brides this season, according to Palermo?
