Totally hot apparel, gifts at Total Chaos Gargoyles welcome customers By ELLEN KOLMAN - Staff Writer - ekolman@starbeacon.com Star Beacon GENEVA — Large gargoyles “peer” out the storefront window, welcoming customers, while music from the Cleveland band Mushroomhead rocks inside Geneva’s hottest new store, Total Chaos.
Total Chaos, owned and operated by Nancy Amer, of Geneva, recently opened its doors at 24 N. Broadway. “The name describes my life: It is always in total chaos,” Amer said with a chuckle. “I am a very busy person, and I own lots of different businesses. So I am always running, but I love it.” Amer describes the style of her new store as rock ’n’ roll and biker, with an eclectic edge. “My store has a little bit of everything from rock band T-shirts to biker apparel and gear, to Amy Brown Fantasy (and) Faery artworks,” she said. “We have more than 50 different varieties of rock ’n’ roll or metal bands on our T-shirts.” Local bands take note: Total Chaos has an informational bulletin board on which area bands are welcome to advertise their next performances for free. Other items customers will find are body jewelry; swords; dragons; gargoyles; flags; novelty items, including T-shirts; brass decorations; incense and incense burners; hair dyes; purses; caps; belts; accessories; vintage rock ’n’ roll icon posters, featuring Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendrix, Janice Joplin; and more. An interesting line of merchandise will give customers the feel of being in the Middle East. The store sells hookah water pipes and shisha-flavored spices for smoking with the hookahs. “We have Bob Marley-style Jamaican Rasta stuff coming in, in about a month,” Amer said. The name Total Chaos is not unheard of around the area as Amer has a Total Chaos shop on the strip at Geneva-on-the-Lake during the summer months, as well as Total Chaos stores have been in various area malls in the past, she said. “People will say: ‘Oh, here you are. I was wondering where you went,’” Amer said. “I opened this Geneva store because I was looking for a year-round business that is close to my home.” The greatest enjoyment Amer receives from her business are all the “cool people” who come into her store. “Here in my store, I am myself. I do what I like, and my hours are my own,” she said. “I like to talk and get to know the people who live around me in the Geneva area.” For more information, call Total Chaos (440-474-2676).
