Styling on Broadway Where everybody’s a star By ELLEN KOLMAN - Staff Writer - ekolman@starbeacon.com Star Beacon GENEVA — Becky Distler has seen a lot of hairstyles come and go during her career that spans more than three decades as a licensed cosmetologist.
“Even though straight hair is hot right now, we will start seeing a little curl come back soon,” said Distler, who recently opened a brand new hair salon. “Styling on Broadway” is the name of the salon after its prime location on 152 S. Broadway, and its slogan is “Where Everybody’s a Star.” “Soon after receiving my license, I went to work at Sue’s Salon, owned by Sue Sferra, and stayed for 30 years,” Distler said. “I was very lucky to work at a salon for so long and remain happy all those years.” “Sue retired, and I thought it was a natural next step for me to own my own shop,” she said. The name “Styling on Broadway” was painted on one of the walls inside Sue’s Salon, which was located at 388 S. Broadway, so when Distler went looking for a location to set up shop, she searched along the Route 534 corridor near downtown Geneva. Inside the “Ready Go” plaza, a store had been gutted by fire, so Distler and her construction team went to work. “My brother and husband were in charge of the work, and they, and some very good friends and tradesmen, had this place ready to move into in about 56 days,” she said. Distler brought with her to Styling on Broadway a few names that customers from Sue’s Salon will remember: Josh Twining, Nancy Hoff and Natalie Dzura. Plus, she has added a couple of new names to her stylist team, they are: Tiffany Danolfo and Becca Hutchinson. “This salon is very spacious and relaxed,” Twining said. “I love the people I work with and our clients.” “I am comfortable with owning my own shop. It came at a good time in my life when I have the time to devote to the business,” Distler said. “My husband, George, has been a real support for me.” What does Styling on Broadway have to offer? Besides being a full service hair salon, which includes cut, color, perms, foiling and up-dos, Styling offers manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, waxing and makeup application. “The up-dos for bridal parties are especially fun; we love doing those because the bride and bridesmaids are all laughing and there are lots of pictures,” Distler said. Distler feels her specialty is the haircut itself.
