MADISON — Mary Mothersbaugh’s passion for hair design developed at a very young age.
“I used to set my mom’s hair when I was little — she was very patient,” Mothersbaugh said, who is the new owner/operator of Chapeldale Hair Design Studio since Jan. 1, located at 1977 N. Hubbard Road.
Mothersbaugh, a Madison native, received her cosmetology license in 1984 and worked for Jane Bodnar at Chapeldale for many years. For the past eight years she has worked as a hair stylist in Ashtabula, but maintained her friendship with Bodnar.
“When Jane decided to retire, I thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to come home again and own the salon I loved so much,” Mothersbaugh said.
“Many of the customers I knew still come to the salon and it has been wonderful rekindling friendships.”
Right now, Mothersbaugh works alone, but plans to build the business to include more stylists.
“I’d like to get it back to the way it was in the ‘80s — we were hopping with four stylists,” she said.
Chapeldale is a unisex salon that welcomes all ages and offers shampoo sets, cuts, color, foil, highlights, perms, deep conditioning treatments, waxing treatments for eyebrows, lips and chin. Coffee, tea, a smile and a relaxed atmosphere is what clients can expect everyday.
“This is a hometown salon with affordable rates,” Mothersbaugh said.
“It is very satisfying when the customer looks in the mirror and says their hair is beautiful,” she said.
Visit Chapeldale Hair Design Studio Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed Sundays and Mondays. Call for an appointment at 440-428-4457.
