DENMARK TOWNSHIP - - The Ashtabula County Airport Authority and the airport's new fixed-base operator, Lakeside Aviation LLC, are preparing an open house and pig roast for the public Saturday.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m. will kick off the function, which showcases $1.1 million in recent improvements. County commissioners will join ACAA board members and Lakeside Aviation LLC representatives for the ceremony.
Three new hangars house 27 aircraft. Hughes Roller Co. of Ashtabula constructed them. Most of the spaces in the all-steel buildings have just about been filled, officials said. Of the 27 spaces for rent in the new hangars, about three or four are still open for new customers.
Other improvements included the paving of the hangar aprons, taxiway and parking lot, according to airport manager Sean Wilson. The pig roast is courtesy of Michael Baker Jr. Inc., which has consulted for airport officials on several projects.
Lakeside Aviation officials and port authority board members invite families, friends and those interested in flying or possibly using the field to take this opportunity to visit. The new operator, part of Erie Management Group, took over management of the Ashtabula County airport July 1 under a 20-year agreement with the ACAA board.
